Summary: Richard always did love kids but when he comes across these two kids just recently orphaned, he cant' help but insist he adopt them, wanting nothing more but to make their lives better or at least bearable.

Misha made it back to his apartment without incident, without some random smiting. Which honestly was scaring him, what did they have waiting for him…?

The answer became clear when he saw someone in his apartment that really shouldn’t have been there.

“Gabriel? How did you get here before me?” Misha asked with a frown even as Gabriel shifted on the couch and looked to him, he was twirling a sword in his hand and Misha paled.

“You…” He quickly got to a knee and Gabriel laughed at him.

“Really? A soldier kneeling before me? Oh! Right I am one of the big four…Now Misha get up. Why do you think I’m here?” Gabriel asked as he made the sword vanish, and Misha looked to Gabriel, the wings shifting and materializing into this plane on both angels as Misha got up.

“To punish me for bringing Richard back…I had no permission to do so.” He said quietly, aware of how small his wings were compared to the archangel’s in front of him. Gabriel cocked his head and looked at Misha with those amber eyes that shouldn’t have been the archangel’s.

“Oh Misha, how wrong you are! No, I have the pleasure of not destroying or reprimanding you…No. Dad actually wanted me to tell you…That you are free to use all your abilities to watch over that family. He says you can do as you see fit with them so long as it does not break the laws he set for us.” Gabriel says with a smile.

“He knows how much you care for that family, and you know how dad is, he loves his creations and he did ask us to serve the humans now didn’t he? You’re doing just that.” Then the Archangel, the messenger, pulled Misha into a hug.

“Take care, brother,” He said with a smile and he was about to leave when Misha stopped him.

“What did you do to the human Gabriel?” He asked, not sure of if the archangel really was using poor Gabriel for a vessel.
Gabriel rolled his eyes, “I merely am borrowing his look, I figured you’d be more responsive to someone you know. The Gabriel you know is still at the hospital watching his cousin. Oh, and by the way, dad gave you permission to heal Richard’s legs. Though I suggest you do it slowly, you know I saw what you did back there with Richard, slowly would seem the best option,” And Gabriel messes up Misha’s hair before he vanishes with a flutter of those huge white wings.

Misha smiled faintly and looked at his wings closely for the first time in years. They’d been white when he left to do this, but now the tips of his wings were a light blue for some reason. He shrugged at that and rolled his shoulders and stretched his wings out. They brushed both walls with a soft flutter.

God? I don’t know if you’re there…But please…help Richard, he doesn’t deserve this…

God? Hi I’m Sam! Can you please help my new daddy Richard? We don’t wanna see him so sad…He seems so sad because he won’t walk again...

Lord, God, whatever you like to be called…Please help my cousin…He’s told me time and again that everything goes according to your plan and well I was hoping maybe you can adjust your plan a bit so Richard could get use of his legs back again?

Lord, I know you have a reason for everything that happens in this world, and I know that while this may not be the best of things, I’m better off than many others…I want to thank you for allowing me the chance to stay alive and to be with my family still. And could you please help them? They seem to be taking the news harder than I am…and Lord? Can you help Misha? He didn’t seem all that happy when he left and I know it must not have been easy for him, to see me as I was back there…Please Lord…I ask you help them. I know I can’t get you to do anything you don’t want to do and if this is your plan then I am willing to accept it…

Misha had been halfway through changing when he heard the prayers. He supposed he could hear them now because he was officially their guardian…Richard’s nearly broke his heart. He was praying for everyone but himself, and that…that’s something else that made Misha more than happy to be watching over them…

Christmas Eve

“I don’t wanna celebrate Christmas til Richard can walk again!” Dean said with a pout in the living room, where Richard sat in his wheelchair, looking at the nine year old sadly.

“Please Dean…we already bought your presents and everything…don’t let that have been for nothing,” He said with a silent plea to his voice. He’d been hearing this almost repeatedly since they’d gotten home yesterday and seen the tree. Richard himself was just glad he was alive… Yet it hurt like a stab to the gut every time the nine year old had said that. He knew Dean didn’t have much to celebrate over after what had happened a few months ago…and then this.

Please…anything but this… Misha looked at him from his seat on the couch and he saw his friend get up and go over to Dean and steer him out of the room quietly, not sure what the other man was going to say, but when Richard looked to Gabriel sitting on the couch with Sam in his lap, he saw Sam looked sadder than usual. The two boys must have been talking about this…

“Hey Sam, come here will ya?” He said as he turned the chair to face Gabriel and Sam, who looked up at Richard with sad eyes, but the five year old obeyed and came over to Richard, who locked the wheelchair in place and then reached over and picked up the kid, setting him on his lap. He saw Sam look at him with those eyes that showed so much expression for such a little kid.

“Do you want to celebrate Christmas?” He asked as the little kid shook his head and Richard frowned at him, “Is it because of me getting hurt?” He asked, and the kid nodded.

“Oh, Sammy,” He sighed as he hugged the little kid. He was touched Sam and Dean cared so much, but he didn’t want them to give up their holiday because of him.

“Listen, Sammy, I need something happy to celebrate, okay? You need something happy to celebrate, so does Gabriel, Dean and Misha. I don’t want you guys being miserable. I’m fine and I want you guys to have fun okay? Because if you don’t have fun then it’ll make me sad,” He said softly and he looked at Sam, “Do you want me sad, Sammy?” He asked softly and Sam shook his head.

“No, Richard, I dun wanna make you sad,” Sam said in a cute voice that made Richard smile and he kissed the top of Sam’s head.

“Good, and I don’t want you two to be miserable either, especially since Gabriel has worked so hard to make the pie and cake we’re gonna have tomorrow,” He said as he messed up Sam’s hair. Richard looked over to Gabriel who was smiling at him, seeming to understand just how important this celebration is to him. The first Christmas with all of them here as a family, and Misha was a part of their family too seeing how often he was over.

“Okay,” Sam said softly as he shifted and got comfy in Richard’s hold and leaned his head against Richard’s chest.

“That and we need to leave cookies out for Santa tonight too, right Gabe?” He said, looking up to Gabriel who paused in mid bite of a cookie.

“Oh…were these meant for Santa? I’m sorry I thought they were for me!” He said with a smile and that got Sam and Richard laughing as Gabriel made sure there were some cookies for ‘santa’.

Misha came back with Dean and nudged the nine year old over to Richard, who looked at Dean.

“I wanna have Christmas,” He says softly as Misha sits down next to Gabriel with a small smile of victory on his face.

“What did you say?” Gabriel asked in a whisper to Misha.

“That’s for me and Dean to know,” Misha said snugly which got him a light smack from Gabriel.
With everything settled and everyone relatively happy, they turned on the tv and started watching some Christmas specials up until around 10 PM.

“Okay boys, time for you to get to sleep,” Richard said as he unlocked his chair, “Or Santa won’t come to leave you some presents.” He said and he saw the boys smile faintly, but he could tell they were still sad about his legs. He was too…but what could he do about it? He saw Misha watching them quietly even as Gabriel got up and started turning off the lights and he tossed some blankets and pillows to Misha, who was going to stay the night and had a pair of clothes for the following day…

“Night Misha…and thanks for getting Dean to well…you know…” He said as Misha nodded and his mouth twitched into a small smile. Richard went to his room, glad he used so used to exercising that had to do with his arms.

He went into his room and closed the door. Richard had refused help from anyone when it came to getting into his own bed. Sure the pain from his stab wound was horrible…But he refused to let anyone help him get dressed and undressed…

He heard the sound of a door closing and dimly noted that it was Gabriel’s even as he got out the pjs he’d wear for tomorrow and then he stripped down to his boxers, fumbling with his jeans and the pain and getting them off his feet…
He really hoped he’d never have to ask for help when it came to changing… Finally he was down to his boxers and he changed those with a fresh pair before tossing his dirty clothes into the hamper nearby… Finally he got under the covers and got comfy…
---
Misha was waiting…He waited for about three hours before Richard finally fell asleep and it was one in the morning and Misha knew there was no such thing as Santa…but he was hungry so he ate one of the cookies and snapped his fingers, presents appearing under the tree for everyone, and well maybe one for himself.

He made a duplicate of himself to be on the couch as he himself went invisible and he looked around to see if anyone was up and he appeared in Richard’s room quietly and saw that he was still awake. He also saw he was quietly staring at the wheelchair and Misha felt bad…He let a soft breeze go through the room and let there be the sound of fluttering feathers and wings and he saw Richard blink and look around. Misha reached over and put two fingers to the back of Richard’s neck, knowing that was where his spinal cord was at and where it was strongest. He felt Richard still in shock trying to reach back but he couldn’t. Misha carefully focused and repaired a few of the crucial nerves needed to interact with the commands the brain sends to the legs.

He didn’t repair all of them; he was going to do this bit by bit. He noticed Richard breathing fast, seeming scared of what was going no, not like he was really aware…Misha then decided to send a brief feeling of a hot feeling down Richard’s spine that had him yelping in surprise. Misha then put two fingers to Richard’s forehead and put him into a deep sleep. He watched his friend for a moment and smiled faintly.

“Merry Christmas Richard,” He said softly before going back out to the couch and replacing the duplicate with himself and he shifted on the couch and allowed himself to slip into sleep…
--
Richard didn’t know he was so tired…When he woke it was 10:30 and he blinked in shock. He never slept this late! He felt a near ache along his spine from whatever the hell it was that had caused it last night before the ache seemed to just…disappear. He got himself out of bed and into the wheelchair before opening the door and coming out to see everyone up and waiting.

“wow, you definitely were tired,” Gabriel said with a chuckle and Richard just gives him a small smile and when he’s settled into his spot Gabriel gets up and then comes back with warm coffee and Richard thanks him.

“You know what’s weird? Last night I felt this…pressure on the back of my neck and then there was this…hot kinda burning feeling along my spine,” He said, watching everyone look to him and blink in shock, except for Misha. Misha was smiling like in triumph and Richard wasn’t sure if even Misha knew this.

“Well…maybe it’s a good sign,” Gabriel said with a smile as Richard nodded and took a drink of his coffee as the kids fidgeted.

“Go ahead and get the present out from under the tree kids,” He said with a smile and Gabriel and the other two dove for the tree.

“I said kids Gabriel, you’re an adult, or have you forgotten that?” Richard said with a raised brow and Gabriel gave Richard puppy dog eyes right as out of nowhere Richard’s right foot jerked and Richard blinked and looked to the foot. The boys hadn’t noticed but Gabriel and Misha had.

“Holy shit on a popsicle stick,” Gabriel said in a mildly loud voice, surprise etched in every word.

“Gabriel watch your language!” He growled as the boys looked back as Richard now actually tried to move his legs, frowning in concentration. His right foot twitched feebly, his left foot barely moving, but Richard was happy, maybe his legs weren’t a lost cause after all.
Misha came over and poked hard right where his leg is supposed to kick out, out of a reflex. It kicked out alright and Richard hissed, it felt like a strain for some reason and Misha left him well enough alone after that before he came back with some apple cider from the kitchen and poured it into four glasses as the kids came back with the presents and they saw Richard smiling at them as he got his leg to move again and both kids cheered and ran up to him and hugged him. Things were looking up now. Misha got up and walked around and squeezed Richard’s shoulders and he swore a finger brushed across the back of Richard’s neck and he looked to Misha who was smiling. Richard couldn’t help but wonder if his friend was drunk as Misha leaned in close.

He whispered something to Richard that Richard didn’t understand, it was some kind of language that he didn’t know. He didn’t know any language that sounded like that, that sounded so…so beautiful. He didn’t know what Misha said but somehow he felt warm in his chest...it felt like those words were just what he needed even if he didn’t understand them.

“M..” He cleared his throat, “Misha what are you saying?” He asked, but Misha just smiled as he pressed is thumb to the back of Richard’s neck for a moment.

Richard twisted around in his chair and thought for a brief moment he saw shadows on the wall directly behind Misha. Shadows he’d seen before…back in the alley…But then it was gone and Misha was already walking toward the couch. Misha picked up the glass that was his and lifted it up, “Merry Christmas guys,” He said with a smile and the others picked up their glasses and clinked them together.

Richard found himself going to sleep after Lunch..he didn’t know why he was so tired, but he’d been up long enough to see the boys enjoying their presents. One thing that had him curious and yet concerned as he got into his bed was Misha’s behavior.

He was…waiting, That’s all he could think of it as. He was waiting and he didn’t know why. He knew he was still in the alley…so…why was he waiting? He knew he needed to stay with the kids, had to stay… Then he saw where Misha was…instead of Misha it was like pure white light condensed into a human form with white wings coming from its back. And then the angel, that’s all Richard could think of it as, put it’s hand to his chest and then he was looking at Misha, who was glowing…then it made sense….

He woke with a start and looked around the room then suddenly he understood what Misha had said to him, even if he didn’t understand the language... I’m here to protect you.
--
“So…think he knows yet? You left pretty obvious clues…” Gabriel says to Misha while they are washing the dishes and the boys are playing Super Smash brothers on the wii.

“Really? Was I that obvious?” Misha asks with a raised brow and Gabriel rolls his eyes and puts his hand on Misha’s shoulders.

“For an angel that’s been on earth for thirty years you really don’t know the meaning of subtlety do you? You were all over the poor guy and dude, saying angelic into his ear? You healed him didn’t you? Got his legs to start working?” He said all this in a low mutter and Misha just looked at him with a scowl. The only reason Gabriel even knew he was an angel was because he was one of the special people that could see the shadows of an angel’s wings.

“Yes…I’m doing it slowly, okay?” He muttered as the door to Richard’s room opened and he looked to the two and went into the kitchen and pushed at Misha.

“You’re an angel and you failed to mention that?!” He growled in a low tone and Gabriel looked to Misha and smirked.

“Busted,” Gabriel said with a smirk and Misha threw him a look that said clearly ‘Shut up!’.

“You knew?! Why didn’t you tell me?!” Richard growled, Gabriel looked at him apologetically.

“He asked me not to,” He said with a shrug and Richard sighs.

“Fine, if you’re an angel why haven’t you healed me?” He asks, looking to Misha, who gets a appropriately hurt expression on his face.

“Look, Richard, I brought you back from the dead, I healed your wound enough that it wouldn’t kill you…and with all that I risked getting smitten by the archangels!” He folds his arms to his chest as if offended that Richard didn’t think he didn’t try, “And well…I didn’t really expect you to find out this soon…I was going to heal you bit by bit…” He mutters … “I know you’re the type to want to get things done on your own and not really want to ask for help so…I was giving you that chance. But fine, want to be all better in the snap of fingers? FINE.” He looks both angry and guilty as he starts to bring his hand up when Gabriel stops him.

“Let him actually respond first, Misha,” He says calmly and Richard looks between the two and then to Misha.

“You risked getting…smitten for me?” He says in a shocked whisper and Misha nodded. Richard got an instantly guilty look on his face.

“I’m sorry,” He whispered and Misha looked awkwardly fidgety.

“I don’t see what you have to be sorry for besides overreacting…I got permission to look out for you guys…So..If you want your legs healed in one shot then…I’ll do it. Like I said I wasn’t expecting you to find out so soon but apparently I don’t know the meaning of subtle,” He says, rolling his eyes at Gabriel.

“It wasn’t that stuff from earlier…it’s the stuff from when I got stabbed…I guess I saw the stuff I really shouldn’t remember…like when I was dead and the moment between then and when you brought me back. I saw a bit of your true form and your wings. Then well…everything after that made sense.” He shrugs, “As for healing my legs…do it however you want,” He says with a sigh and Misha bites his lip and seems to be thinking of something else. Then he simply vanishes and that leaves both Gabriel and Richard blinking.

“I think you upset him,” Gabriel says accusingly and Richard glares at him before looking back to the empty space where Misha had been. Shit.

The prayers were just perfect! Truly heartfelt, the way I think many people would pray. And cool that Misha the angel is now really their angel and got to meet the real archangel Gabriel!
