Summary: Richard always did love kids but when he comes across these two kids just recently orphaned, he cant' help but insist he adopt them, wanting nothing more but to make their lives better or at least bearable.

It was six am when the doorbell rang. Richard shifted in his sleep and ended up waking up the boys and he apologized to them as he got up and shuffled over to the door sleepily in his green pjs. He opened it and Saw Misha there holding boxes in his arms and there was another person behind him. Misha looked like he hadn’t had any sleep there were the beginnings of dark circles under his eyes. He was still in his uniform and Richard hurriedly let him in.

“I’m sorry, Misha I completely forgot! I collapsed after dinner with the kids,” He said in a way of explaining it to his friend, who smiled at him.

“It’s okay, I figured as much, and I have the paperwork in the first box,” He said with an air of exhaustion as Sam and Dean came out of Richard’s room and that got Misha raising a brow, his dark brown hair all over the place right now.

“What? They wanted company,” He said with a shrug as he went into the kitchen and started up the coffee maker after prepping it to make the coffee.

“Want some coffee? I know this is your day off too,” He said to Misha who smiled tiredly at him.

“Not now Richard, but thanks for the offer. Can you come out and help us unload the stuff please?” He asked and Richard nodded and looked to the boys, getting the papers out of the box and setting them on the counter and then putting the box in the living room.

“Okay boys, I need you to find some clothes to put on and then go and shower, bathe whatever, just get yourself clean and into clean clothes and wake up Gabe so he can make you breakfast okay?” He said with a smile at them and they bobbed their head and started going through the clothes in the box as Richard went out and helped Misha and the other man, uh…Robert he though his name was. They got all the boxes in within ten minutes. The kids managed to find the clothes they wanted and scampered off to the two bathrooms there and started their baths. Misha and Richard were thanking Robert for his help and he left wishing them and the kids well before he went off. Misha was exhausted, halfway through talking to him, the poor guy just…passed out from exhaustion and he saw Dean Come out fully dressed and go into the other bathroom to make sure Sam was getting dressed before both ran over to Gabriel’s room and knocked on the door. He watched as Gabriel opened the door in black pajamas and he looked down at them with blurry eyes and he didn’t seem to comprehend them.

“Richard! He doesn’t seem to be hearing us,” Dean said with a frown not seeming to get that Gabriel was barely awake and that’s why he was just looking at them blankly.

“Gabe isn’t much of a morning person,” He said with a chuckle, “GABE! Get your hiney in gear or I’ getting you on the treadmill right now!” Richard said sharply and clearly and that got Gabriel up and moving and Dean laughing though Sam didn’t seem to get it.

“What’s a treadmill?” He asked Gabriel whom he was trailing. When Gabriel didn’t respond he asked Richard, both boys noticing Misha fast asleep on the couch, Richard getting up from the recliner.

“It’s something you run on so you don’t get fat. Gabe would think of it as a torture devise though,” He says with a chuckle when Gabriel shot him a dirty look but Sam was already giggling and hopping up at a chair.

“You guys got everything you need for school?” Richard asked and Dean smiled, holding up their bookbags.

“Yup!” He said and Richard was glad to see that Dean was feeling better than he had the night before. They still had an hour left before he had to drive them to school, which he looked up where they went in his papers. The school wasn’t too far away. He usually passed it on the way to work and during his patrols. It was then that he realized he should talk to the office and make sure they are aware that the kids are living with him now. He smells eggs being made and the kids are begging Gabriel for candy to eat while they are at school as he makes their lunch while they are eating, asking what each wanted.

“Who told you I liked candy?” He asked with a raised brow before Dean sniggers.

“Richard told us you’re a candy junkie! Can we have some please?” Dean asked and Gabriel looked at them and smiled.
“How could I say no to you two?” He says with a smile as he finished the lunches for them and then passes Richard and Misha on the way to his room and he stops and pokes Misha in the stomach right as Richard tells him, “No!”

Misha jerks awake with a growl and realizes it was Gabriel that woke him seeing as Gabriel’s laughing.

“You shouldn’t sleep with your weapons still in your belt Mish Mish, that’s dangerous around the kids,” Gabriel says, now sounding like a stern parent and Richard chuckles at how fond Gabriel is of the kids, even if he doesn’t quite realize it yet. Misha mutters some choice swears and gets up and looks to Richard.

“How long was I out for?” He asked even as he yawned, Richard just smiled when he saw that. There were times he couldn’t understand why Misha had no girlfriend or wife. The guy probably attracted them by the mountain load but he never really seemed to care much for them…

“About half an hour. You should get back home and sleep,” He said but Misha shook his head, pausing to look at the kids eating and Gabriel returning with some candy to put in their lunches, the kids more than happy.

“You did a good thing, Richard,” He said in a tired voice and Richard smiled faintly. “It’s clear they like you and Gabriel,” Misha says with a smile and Richard gets up. “Come on, you should drink some coffee if you want to stay up then,” He says with a smile and Misha agrees.

“Want me to come with you to the school for the Change of address paperwork?” Misha asked as he poured himself some coffee and Gabriel messed up his hair and Misha scowled at him, but Gabriel just smirked back at him.

“Oh so someone really wants to get on that treadmill today then?” Richard said and he watched as a look of horror crossed Gabriel’s face.

“I wasn’t bluffing last night or this morning, I’m getting you the exercise you need,” Richard says stubbornly and Misha snorts out a laugh as he puts some creamer and sugar in his coffee.

“We’ll have to handcuff him so he can’t get anywhere while we’re out,” Misha said teasingly and Gabriel scowled at them even as Misha sat down next to Gabriel and messed up his already messed up hair even more. Gabriel smiled and got up, fleeing the room, Misha following right after and the heard a thump in the other room and when Richard and the boys came out they saw Misha Handcuffing Gabriel. The sigh made them all laugh.

“Okay you two, go ahead and tickle the crap out of him,” Richard said with a grin and Gabriel immediately let out a squeal of ‘Noooo!’ as the kids ran at him as Misha got off. The boys went up to Gabriel and started tickling him at the sides and on his stomach and damn the laughing that came from Gabriel was again so priceless! Richard then went and grabbed the video camera and brought it back and then started recording the scene in front of him, Gabriel laughing and rolling around, trying to get away from the two kids tickling him. It was amusing to watch, and Richard saw Misha drinking his coffee and then caught a glimpse of the time. Richard set up the camera so it could catch everything before he went to his room and changed into jeans, a white dress shirt and a tan coat, coming out and watching as Dean stopped when he saw Richard dressed and he pulled Sam away.

“Come on Sammy, Richard’s dressed; we need to go to school.” He says and Sam lets out a sad ‘aww!’ but does as his brother wants him to. Richard smiles and turns off the camera. Dean caught on fast, even as Richard pulled on his shoes and looked to Gabriel panting on the ground.

Richard felt bad so he helped Gabriel onto the couch, gave him a pillow and then grabbed a blanket from Gabriel’s room and put it on him. Gabriel looked at him with pleading eyes, eyes that said ‘I don’t want to do this, Richard…please…Don’t make me have to do this…’

Richard sighed and ran his hand through his cousin’s hair, “You know I’m doing it to help you, right?” He says to Gabriel, aware of Misha ushering the kids to the car as Richard tossed him the keys and told them to wait for him.

“Please, Richard, I’m fine…Why are you trying to force this on me?” Gabriel asked and Richard sighed at the sadness in Gabriel’s voice and the look that made him look like a kicked puppy. Richard sat down next to Gabriel and looks at him, his hazel to those amber…

“Would you do it if I didn’t harass you like this? Do you want to be in shape and be able to go out and have fun and get yourself a girlfriend?” Richard asked the twenty four year old, who looked away.

“Look, I’m not going to drill you hard like you’re a slave or anything like that it’s just…portion control Gabriel and exercising. I manage to keep in shape even with everything you feed me, I know you can do it too,” He said in a softer voice than he’s ever used with Gabriel before.
“Come on, Gabriel, I know you can do it. I’m here to help you. If it ever gets too much let me know.” He said in the same voice and Gabriel sighed.

“Fine…You should get going, you have a sleepy friend and two kids in a car…I doubt that’ll be a good combo for long,” Gabriel says, joking lightly and Richard smiles at him and gets up, going for the door.
“When I get back we’re going to go get another bed and get the stuff out of the office, then after lunch we’ll start, okay?” He said as he got to the door and Gabriel acknowledged what he said with a faint nod, and then Richard closed the door, locking it from the inside since Misha had the keys. He knew Gabriel would get out of the cuffs at some point, the bugger was smart and clever, he would be great at a lot of things but it was his laziness that was his downfall, though he did still make a good earning on being a Graphic Designer.
Richard got into his silver car and Misha handed the keys with a curious expression on his face.

“Took you long enough,” He said with a smile and Richard rolled his eyes.

“He was giving me the kicked puppy look,” He said with an eyeroll before looking back at the boys and asked them if they had their lunches, both boys said yes and Richard smiled and started the drive to the school and he got out with them, Misha getting out too, and Richard was glad Misha had the papers with him cause otherwise Richard would have been cursing and quickly driving back to the house cause he’d completely forgotten about them. Richard went with Misha and the boys to the school, escorting the boys to Sam’s classroom and Richard went inside with them and went to the teacher of Sam’s class who seemed surprised to see him and Misha, more Misha than anything because he was still in uniform.

Richard talked to the teacher quietly and explained what was going on, and she gasped and put a hand to her mouth when Richard told her that Sam and Dean’s parents were dead.

“The poor babies!” She whispered and Richard nodded, catching his reflection in the mirror behind her, his brown hair a bit more messed up than usual and his eyes showed no sign of exhaustion but of concern. He looked back to her and nodded.

“How did you end up getting them?” She asked curiously and Richard ran a hand through his hair and explained that he had been the one to capture the killer.

“There’s something about them…I didn’t want them going to an orphanage so…with my boss’ permission I brought them home and I have the paperwork to show me and my cousin are their legal guardians now,” He said as he showed her the paperwork, “Which is why I’m here mostly, to inform you of their change of address,” He said and the teacher nodded and jotted it down.

“Okay so…you’re Richard Speight, correct?” She asked and Richard nodded, “My cousin is Gabriel Milton. He actually looks a lot like me just with blonde hair and amberish eyes,” He said with a smile and the teacher nodded as the first bell rang and Dean tugged on Richard’s pants.

“Richard I’m gonna be late!” He says hurridly and Richard looks down and nods.

“Okay Dean,” He looks back to the teacher, “It was nice meeting you,” He said as he picked up the papers and left the classroom in a hurry with Misha and Dean, they actually had to start running cause the other bell rang like…two minutes after and the class Dean was in was all the way across campus and Dean was falling behind so Richard scooped him up and dashed across campus with the nine year old actually laughing at that and seeming to have a blast.

“What number is it?” Richard asked as Misha easily kept pace with him.
“501,” Dean said as they just got past the 400 block.

“Dang this place is larger than I thought,” Richard muttered and Dean laughed, seeming content to not have to be dragged along, and soon they were at the 500 block and Richard set him down, catching his breath as he opened the door and Dean went in, he was beaming. He’d gotten to class nearly on time via Richard airways.

“Late for the tenth time now Dean?” came a teacher’s voice and Dean swallowed as he looked to his teacher, who was a stern older woman.

“You know what that means don’t you? Detention, after school.” She said and Richard scowled and cleared his throat. The teacher looked to him and raised a brow.

“May I help you?” She asked as Misha got in behind Richard and Richard nodded.

“Yes you can actually,” He said as he actually went over to her desk and sat down in her chair, aware that the kids were watching with wide eyes and gasped when Richard sat in their teacher’s chair. Misha was looking at him curiously from the door.

“See this is the third grade, right? They shouldn’t be put in detention this early, that’s more of a middle school thing…and from looking at your awards here…you used to teach middle school, right?” He said as he made his casual observations and the teacher looked at him.

“Yes but that’s no reason for you to disrupt my class!” She said indignantly.

“Actually, it is because I’m the reason Dean’s late. There’s been a few change arounds to his living situation and he’s been put in my custody. I was unaware of when the bells for this school rang so I arrived at the school alter than I should have, I dropped his brother off at his class room and the bell rang so we had to run across this ridiculously oversized campus to get here.” He said as he stood up and he looked to the teacher.

“So I would appreciate it if he is excused for today, and if he isn’t well, I guess I’ll have to bring this up to the principal won’t I?” He said in an all too pleasant voice but the insinuation was clear. Don’t. Fuck. With. Me. That actually had Misha struggling not to laugh, because he knew this act from Richard all too well, had seen it with people Richard had interrogated in the interrogation room, he had a way of making threats sound like pleasant comments.

Richard then leaned in and whispered to her, “And if I hear you treated Dean any differently than you normally have because of this conversation…then well, again I’ll have to talk to the principal,” And with that he turns and walks to the door, looks to the silent classroom and smiles at them.

“Have a good day you guys and try not to be too wild for your teacher now, hm?” He says with a genuine smile and the kids nodded and then Richard left with Misha. The moment they were out of ear range Misha started laughing.

“Damn Richard! You’re overprotective today!” He says with a chuckle as Richard smiles faintly.

“Dean and Sam had a hard night, okay? Dean is the one that understands his parents are dead and when a kid comes seeking comfort about that late at night…Well you can’t help but to get protective,” He says with a small smile, “That and I thought today would be a hard day for him. Let’s hope I didn’t make it worse,” He said with a shrug as he went over to the office with Misha and told them of the change of Address for Dean and Sam before leaving and driving Misha back to his place and he and Misha talking for a bit and then Misha said he needed to get some sleep and Richard thanked him for bringing the stuff over. Misha waved it off and he left.

Richard went into the house to see Gabriel fast asleep. Richard smiled softly as he put the keys on the table and went about to unplugging the computers from the third room and he pulled them out into the front room as he started cleaning up the other room, which had a dresser in there and a cot cause sometimes Gabriel would pass out in front of his computer and be too lazy to go back to his room and he would get on the cot and just sleep, sometimes with music playing quietly on the computer. It was actually adorable to see. He heard movement as he carefully brought Gabriel’s computer.

Richard paused and saw Gabriel stretching out and yawning. Richard went over to him and freed his hands from the handcuffs.

“How’d it go?” Gabriel asked as he helped Richard move the desk stuff and unplug the phone from that room.

“I told off Dean’s teacher for giving him detention for being late,” Richard says calmly, “In front of a whole class of nine year olds,” He says and Gabriel starts laughing.
“I’m guessing she was some old fogey?” He said with a snigger and Richard nodded as they took Gabriel’s clothes out of the drawers of that room and took the cot and collapsed it.
“I also told her if she treated Dean any differently cause of what I’d told her I’d go to her boss and the principal,” He said and Gabriel rolled his eyes.

“Misha saw all this didn’t he?” He said with a laugh as they finished and started setting the computers up in both rooms. Richard laughed.

“Yeah, he did. He said I was being over protective,” He said with a chuckle, “But I didn’t want Dean getting detention because of me,” He shrugs as they left Richard’s room and then set up the last computer in the den.

“Okay , get dressed and we’re gonna go get a bed for that room,” He said and Gabriel sighed and nodded.
Gabriel came out in jeans and a baggy sweatshirt and Richard didn’t say anything, Gabriel usually wore something along the line of what Richard wore now but eh, who cares, he was going to get worked hard later anyways…

They picked out a bed and then lingered around the store for a while but found nothing else so they went back to the house and ate lunch as they waited for the delivery people from the store to arrive. They’d said they’d be there around 1:30…They got there at one, and Richard was glad for that, it gave him and Richard time to set it up, which took a shorter time than he thought and then came the dreaded time for Gabriel.

“Um…Richard? What time do the boys get out of school?” He asked, knowing what time it was as Richard went into the garage and he smiled.

“Three thirty I’m not dumb Gabriel, now come on, take the sweatshirt off and let’s try the bowflex on ya…” And then he set it up so Gabriel would have to work with his arms and legs at once, bringing them together in front of him and then back and then forward, that basic thing. Gabriel never stopped complaining, and when it got to be more than Richard could stand he threatened Gabriel with another twenty reps and that shut Gabriel up, who was sweating like crazy and who seemed to feel like he was going to die of exhaustion and pain. After half an hour Richard stopped Gabriel and told him that was good for today. Gabriel let out a whimper when he was too weak to push himself up. Richard felt bad and offered his hand to him.

“I hate you…” Gabriel whimpered as Richard helped him into the house. Richard just chuckled as he helped Richard to the bathroom and then brought him some clothes and then started the water.

“Now relax in a nice warm bath. It’ll help soothe your muscles and soothe them, okay? It’s always hard the first and second day, but hey, I didn’t put you through an hour of torture like I’d threatened now did I?” Gabriel just gave him a look that was close to a glare. Richard bit his lip and looked away, getting up and leaving Gabriel alone. Gabriel hadn’t come out by the time it was 3:15 and he arrived and saw the boys standing there with other kids. Richard rolled down the window and saw them look at him and Dean came running to the car with Sam and they got into the back.

“Richard, you’re awesome!” Dean said as soon as they were buckled in and Richard chuckled as he pulled out from the spot and started the drive back home.

“Oh? Why do you say that Dean?” He said as he glanced back at him in the rearview mirror.

“Mrs. Griffin didn’t pick on me all day! She usually is mean to me but not today cause of you,” Dean says with glee in his voice and Richard smiled.

“That’s good,” He said as he pulled up at the house, “Oh and boys, leave Gabriel alone today, okay? He had to rough with his first exercising session today, I think he might still be in the tub soaking so if you need to use the bathroom use the one in my room, but if the door is closed to either bathrooms always knock before trying the knob, okay boys?” Both boys nodded and they got out of the car and then went into the house and they found Gabriel lounging on the couch blankets draped over him and his head on the pillow and he looks half awake. Though he beamed when he saw the boys who ran up to him as he sat up and Sam jumped up onto the couch and hugged Gabriel. Gabriel smiled at how the five year old was hugging him carefully.

“Heh, he told you he worked me like a dog, huh?” he said with a chuckle and Dean got up on Gabriel’s other side and hugged him as well.

“He worked you like a dog?” Sam cocked his head, “Was it fun? Did you get to bark at doggies passing by?” Sam asked innocently and that had Richard laughing and Gabriel rolling his eyes.

“No! It’s just an expression, silly,” Gabriel says as he pokes Sam’s nose and the five year old giggled and then looked Gabriel over.

“Do you feel stronger?” Sam asked him innocently yet again and Gabriel chuckled, lifting the five year old onto his lap, gritting his teeth as his tired sore muscles protested angrily.

“Well…not really but maybe after a while of doing this I’ll be stronger,” and he shot a smile at Richard who looked relieved that Gabriel was going to give it a shot after all.

“Okay boys so we have the second room set up, so who wants which room?” He asked as the boys perked up and went running over to the rooms and Dean claimed the one next to Richard’s room and Sam got the one next to Gabriel but he seemed all too pleased with it. The boys started setting up their stuff in their rooms getting said rooms to how they liked it as Richard sat down next to Gabriel and pulled him into a warm, soft hug.

“Thanks,” He muttered softly and Gabriel patted his back.

“You just want to help me get healthy…why should I hold that against you?” Gabriel muttered as he started to get up but Richard stopped him.

“How about I make dinner tonight? You just relax,” He said with a soft smile as the kids came running out of their rooms and they hugged Gabriel again.

“Thanks for the Lunch Gabe! It was yummy!” Sam said, bouncing on his feet, eyes shining with happiness. Dean seconded that by saying it was the best lunch he’d had ever. Richard chuckled and then slid some paper in front of the boys on the table.
“Okay I have one task for you guys,” He said as he puts pencils down. The three blink at Richard and Sam and Dean seem to think this is homework of some sort and groan.

“Hey, hear me out here. I figured I’d let you guys write down what you want to keep you entertained around here since I know the only thing here that would really keep you entertained is Gabriel,” Gabriel chuckled at that, getting a poke from Sam and snorting, “and even then Gabriel gets worn out so write down toys, game systems, books whatever on there and I’ll look it over…Think of it like a Christmas list, and put your names at the top.” Richard says and he sees the two boys get excited and start writing and Gabriel starts whispering things in their ears.

“Hey! Gabe if you want something you can buy it yourself,” He says in a warning tone and Gabriel leans back smirking and Richard looked to both lists and saw candy at the top of both. Maybe Gabriel was more of a kid than Richard had thought..
