Summary: Cas had just wanted a hug from Sam, but after explaining things to Sam, he wanted more.
NOTE: Formorganoconner who'd wanted a Sassy fic after last night's episode. This is kinda pre-slash
Cas had wanted to hug the younger Winchester as a gesture of how happy he was to see Sam back to as close to normal as he’ll get, even with a soul so damaged, yet… Cas couldn’t help but be hurt when Sam had refused the hug and it had felt…awkward as he had told the young man about the events that had gone on that he knew of when Sam was wandering around soulless. Sam took the news of what happened harder than Cas thought. Sam looked horrified and shocked and even hurt at many points but it was the worst at the end when it had all sunk in. Sam was close to…crying?
“Sam?” He surprised himself with how gentle his voice was now. He’d nearly forgotten how vulnerable Sam can be…but that was one of the things he liked about him...when he had his soul at least. He cared, and he showed emotion, something Cas had always loved, even if he never showed it.
“What? ..Oh…sorry Cas I just…I’m sorry I ever threatened you…I’d never hunt you, you know that, right?” He says and oh no, his eyes were in puppy dog mode and Cas can feel his grace respond to that, all he wanted to do right now was comfort the distressed Sam, it had always upset Cas, seeing him like that.
“It’s okay, Sam, I know you did not know emotions then,” He watches as Sam’s features soften a bit but then his face falls some more.
“What is it?” Cas asks, tilting his head a bit, he could then see the whole truth behind the situation, how Sam had stumbled a bit on some things. Oh. Oh crap.
“Dean and Bobby never told you any of this, did they?” He asks as he goes and pulls Sam out of his chair and hugs Sam close. He wanted Sam to know just…how much he actually cared for the younger Winchester. He’d always known how kind Sam was and…feeling how…torn apart Sam’s soul was…how flayed it had been by Lucifer and Michael…He’d felt guilty for allowing them to go through with the plan Gabriel had provided them with…Yet he knew that Sam had a huge heart…
Only after about five minutes did Cas realize Sam wasn’t pulling away, that Sam was shivering, no…shuddering and Sam seemed to be fighting back tears. Cas rubbed Sam’s back gently as he brought Sam to the bed and sat on it with Sam, who was compliant. Cas leaned up against the headboard and pulled Sam close to him and held him in warm arms. Cas shifted his wings behind him. They were bigger now, because of his new status, but they weren’t a different color. He let his wings manifest and he wrapped them around Sam who stirred at the sound and he blinked in shock.
“Cas? What…are you doing?” He asked and Cas ran his hand through Sam’s hair.
“I believe you and Dean and everyone else would call it…’comforting you’, right?” He said with a small smile as he saw Sam look genuinely touched.
“I…thank you Cas,” He says softly as he reaches his hand out and touches the black feathers, which had an edge of dark blue to them.
“You’re Welcome, Sam,” He mutters softly and with a warm smile and he could see Sam’s soul brighten just a little more. Sam must have thought he was looked down on because of the demon blood in him…but no, Cas had always admired the younger Winchester for how hard he fought against the demonic influence inside him, how he was the opposite of what the demon blood should have made him. Cas noticed Sam turn and look him over for a long moment and those eyes…Those eyes held so much that was mostly something Cas did not recognize of emotions, but he recognized love and peace…So what did he do? He pulled Sam in close and kissed him softly on the lips and that turned into touching and feeling each other up…
He vaguely thought that The Pizzaman and maybe even Gabriel, the prankster and pervert he was, would be proud.
